- Sentence type flow Pieces with good flow will make use of all four sentence types, varying them to keep the reader interested.
- Sentence length flow Sentence length is indirectly related to sentence type, and is a good indicator of flow. Flow can be altered by adding, removing, lengthening, shortening, combining, or splitting sentences. Long sentences will be indicated by a red line on the graph. Sentences that flow poorly with their surroundings will be orange, and the source of the problem can often be found in a nearby sentence.
- Word length flow Word length is a minor contributor to overall flow, but even minor variations are signs of good rhythm.
- Passive Voice Index This is a measure of how frequently the passive voice is used. Consider revising your document if it scores over 100.
- Prepositional Phrase Index This is a measure of how frequently prepositional phrases are used. Consider revising your document if it scores over 100.
- Average sentence length Sentence length is a major contributor to the level of education required to read a body of text.
- Sentence length standard deviation This is a measure of the amount of variation in the length of a text's sentences. In texts that have broad appeal, this tends to fall between 50 and 90% of the average sentence length. You can increase this number by making long sentences longer, and short ones shorter.
- Sentence deviation to length ratio This is a measure of the sentence variety, and a major contributor to flow. Most novels score between 0.5 and 0.9, and popular ones often score near the high end of the range. You can increase this number by making long sentences longer, and short ones shorter.
- Just the stats preset Use this preset when you're only interested in the stats tab. Critique and Flow will be hidden.
- Honesty preset This preset checks for common indicators of deception, either by lying or omission, and is based on the findings of this study . Areas with high concentrations of these indicators should be viewed with skepticism. Note that the presence or absence of these indicators does not guarantee that a statement is true or false, and that the study was done on spoken communications, so it might be more applicable to interviews and speeches. As always, use your brain.
- Doubled words A word used twice in a row may be a typo.
- Commonly confused words This will check for the internet's most frequently confused words and notify you if it looks like you misused one. It is experimental and probably the least reliable feature. Consult a dictionary when necessary.
- Sentences starting with the same word A word should not be used to start more than one sentence in a single paragraph.
- Misplaced conjunctions It is considered poor style to place coordinating conjunctions at either end of a sentence. Placing a subordinating conjunction at the end of a sentence is against the rules.

- Overwriting Words like "very" and "really" make sentences wordier and weaken your message. These can be deleted in almost all cases without affecting the meaning of the sentence.
- Abstract words Abstract words lack specificity and overusing them can make even simple concepts difficult to understand. There are times when abstract words are desirable or even necessary; it would be difficult to write about math or programming without mentioning variables or functions, but you should use more specific terms whenever possible.
- Wordy and redundant phrases These phrases make your writing more difficult to understand. In most cases, they can be replaced with one or two words, or even deleted.
- Legalese These antiquated, arcane words and phrases will make your writing look like a contract.
- Double negatives Double negatives are almost always poor style.
- Adverbs They aren't bad in small quantities, but consider revising your document if more than 5.5% of its words are adverbs. Adverbs ending in "-ly" are considered the worst offenders.
- Adjectives They aren't bad in small quantities. A few of the words on this list can also function as other parts of speech. You have been warned.
- Contractions In formal writing, the use of contractions is considered a fault.

- Weasel words Like abstract words, weasel words and phrases lack specificity. At best, they convey uncertainty. At worst, they can be used to "weasel out" of telling the truth in a straightforward manner. When checking a document that is speculative by nature, you might want to disable this detector.
- Third person pronouns According to this study , high concentrations of third person pronouns may indicate deception.
- Bias language These words and phrases often show the author's bias.
- Uncommon words Uncommon words will increase the document's reading difficulty.

While the majority of tutoring sites focus more on straightforward academics, Wyzant also includes creative writing tutors. What Is an Online Writing Tutoring Service?
An online writing tutoring service is a website or platform that connects students with writing tutors, completely online and remote. These companies may be geared toward a specific grade level or type of writing, or they may be a more general platform to connect students and tutors.
A research study found that students who sought the help of tutors in writing the second draft of essays progressed more and scored higher on their second drafts than those who did not seek help. The same study found that students who used online tutoring services in addition to in-person tutoring in their school’s writing center scored even higher than those who did not take advantage of online tutoring services.
How Much Do Online Writing Tutoring Services Cost?
Online writing tutoring services cover a wide range of prices. In general, there are two basic models: pay-per-session or subscription. For the former, students pay for access each time they use the service for tutoring help. Chrome’s new AI feature can help you write on the web

You can now turn on “Help me write,” a new experimental AI feature in Chrome that can help you write content online.
Last month, we announced new generative AI features coming to Chrome to make browsing the web easier and more personalized — including a tab organizer, theme generator and an experimental tool to help you confidently write content online.
With this week’s launch of Chrome M122, you can try out “ Help me write ” on Mac and Windows PCs starting in the U.S in English. Using Gemini models, the new feature will help you start writing or refine something you’ve already written — whether you’re selling a piece of furniture, submitting a restaurant review or inquiring about a hotel reservation. The tool will understand the context of the webpage you’re on to suggest relevant content. For example, as an avid gardener, if I’m writing a review for garden shears, Chrome will pull out relevant details about the item from the page to support my recommendation so it’s more valuable to other hobbyists.
Use "Help me write" for everyday writing tasks, like inquiring about a hotel reservation.
To turn on this feature, sign into Chrome, select “Settings” from the three-dot menu and navigate to the “ Experimental AI ” page. There, you’ll see the option to enable “Help me write” (you can disable it at any time). Once you enable it, you’re all set: Just right-click on an open text field within Chrome and select "Help me write" to get started.

Academic writing comes in many forms, from essays to reports, dissertations or theses. Each one is different when it comes to content, structure, tone, audience and the themes it explores. The creation of these types of academic papers can be said to follow a consistent and well-established structure. Writing Helper breaks down this writing process, and presents it to the student step by step, allowing them to focus on each stage separately, to build a strong piece of writing from the foundations upwards.
There are 7 steps in the Writing Helper process. We start by helping students to set goals, such as the word count. Next the question is broken down into key words and then the structure is mapped out. Step 4 is to add the sources, followed by snippets that add weight to the students’ work. Then finally Writing Helper will help students to review work and make any corrections before publishing.
There are a number of useful health checks in the Publish tab, and you will be able to see your word count and how it has been broken down by section. Hover over the different bars in the “Words” graphic to see more information. Click the “Publish to Word” button to create the Word document. This document will be created using proper Microsoft Word standards, including proper Styles (e.g. title, heading 1 etc.), References, and Navigation.

Google Chrome’s ‘Help me write’ tool can now finish your sentences for you
G oogle has started rolling out “Help me write” — an experimental Gemini-powered generative AI feature for its Chrome browser that aims to help users write or refine text based on webpage content. Following the stable release of Chrome M122 on Tuesday, the new writing assistant is now available to try out on Mac and Windows PCs for English-speaking Chrome users in the US.
“Help me write” focuses on providing writing suggestions for shortform content, such as filling in digital surveys and reviews, enquiring about product information, or drafting descriptions for items being sold online. Google says the tool can “understand the context of the webpage you’re on” to pull relevant information into its suggestions — for example, highlighting key features mentioned on the product page for items you’re leaving a review on.
The “Help me write” feature has undergone some visual changes since it was first announced for Gmail during Google’s I/O event last May , now appearing as a floating application window beside the webpage text fields that are being filled with separate options to adjust length and tone. The Chrome release offers similar functionality to what Microsoft released for Edge and Bing search last year .
Users in the US will need to enable Chrome’s Experimental AI to use the feature, which can be found by clicking on Settings within the three-dot drop-down menu on Chrome desktop and then navigating to the Experimental AI page. From there, click on “Try out experimental AI features” and select “Help me write” and then “relaunch.” Users can then navigate to a webpage on Chrome and right-click on an open text field to use the writing assistant feature.
The Google support page includes a disclaimer that tells users not to provide personal information like their name, phone, address, social security number, or credit card information to the feature and that the tool shouldn’t be used on websites that contain personal or sensitive information. But if you do input such information, Google says that “Chrome will not use it for model training purposes.”
I’m not convinced the “Help me write” tool will prove very useful for most people — it’s not exactly a must-have feature driving the adoption of Edge and Copilot over the last year. The use cases provided by Google seem reasonable if the feature spits out the exact copy you need, but any time spent writing the prompts and adjusting the resulting text to suit your needs diminishes any time-saving benefits it may have provided. I can see some benefits for disabled users or people who aren’t completely fluent in English, but there’s also plenty to be concerned about — the ease with which this tool could be used to leave fake or disingenuous product reviews being one of them.
Chrome gets a built-in AI writing tool powered by Gemini
Google Chrome is getting a new AI writing generator today. At its core, this Gemini-powered tool is essentially the existing “ Help me write ” feature from Gmail, but extended to the entire web and powered by one of Google’s latest Gemini AI models. The company first announced this new tool in January and it remains in its “experimental” phase, meaning you must explicitly enable it.
To get started, head to the Chrome settings menu and look for the “Experimental AI” page. From there, you can easily enable the new writing feature, as well as Google’s new automatic tab organizer (which I haven’t found particularly useful or smart so far) and the new Chrome theme manager). For now, the AI writer is only available in English on Windows, Mac and Linux. After that, right-click on any text field and select “Help me write.” You can use this to write something completely new and Gemini can also rewrite existing text.

If you’re subscribed to Gemini Advanced, this new tool will not give you access to an enhanced writing model, a Google spokesperson told us. It’s very much meant for short-form content like emails or support requests and a bigger model may not even be of much help there anyway.
One nifty feature here is that the tool will take into account the site you are on when it makes its recommendations. “The tool will understand the context of the webpage you’re on to suggest relevant content,” Google engineering director Adriana Porter Felt writes in today’s announcement . “For example, if you’re writing a review for a pair of running shoes, Chrome will pull out key features from the product page that support your recommendation so it’s more valuable to potential shoppers.”
As with the “Help me write” feature in Gmail, it’s easy enough to change the length and tone of the results, too.
It’s important to note that the text, content and the URL of the page you are using the service on will be sent to Google under its existing privacy policy. Google explicitly notes that this information “is used to improve this feature, which includes generative model research and machine learning technologies,” which includes a review process with humans in the loop. Caveat scriptor.

Google Chrome update brings 'Help Me Write' and generative AI to any website
If there's a text box, Chrome M122 can help you write in it.

Google is bringing generative artificial intelligence to any website on the internet with the release of Help Me Write for Google Chrome . It's a text generator that uses AI to help users write, and it was previously limited to select Google Workspace apps and subscriptions. Now, Google is expanding Help Me Write, which will be available in any text box on the web in Chrome.
The company officially refers to Help me write as an "experimental writing AI aid." After finding a text box to write in, Chrome users can open up the Help Me Write window and give it a writing prompt. If you've ever used an AI chatbot, like ChatGPT or Gemini , you'll know how to use Help Me Write in Chrome.
Notably, the feature can use the context of the webpage you're currently viewing to inform the writing samples it returns.
Simply enter something like, "write a request to return a defective bike helmet that has a line crack despite not being stated as covered in the product warranty,” in the Help me Write window. This an example use that Google provided, and you can see how that kind of prompt would play out in Chrome via the screenshot below.
The writing sample that Help Me Write in Google Chrome returned is much longer and explanatory than the original prompt. In this case, using Help Me Write would probably save someone a few minutes or more.
The new Chrome feature seems like one of the more useful AI tools to debut. Generative AI is pretty good at writing, but only in certain situations. There are also very real concerns about plagiarism due to the growth of generative AI of late. However, Help me write in Google Chrome looks to be a great deployment of generative AI.
For example, if you need to communicate with a company's support chatbot or email line, the communication doesn't need to be perfect. In fact, you'll probably need to get through a few virtual checks before reaching a real person on the company's end anyway. In this kind of situation, using Help Me Write in Chrome could save you valuable time with very few downsides.
But, it is still important to keep in mind that generative AI makes mistakes, and Google warns users about this as well. If you're in a situation where accuracy is paramount, it's probably worth writing yourself as opposed to using Help Me Write in Chrome.
Help Me Write is available in Chrome M122 starting today, in the U.S. and in English. It can be accessed in the Chrome browser on macOS and Windows, but there is no mention of ChromeOS support in the press release.
Since this feature is currently experimental, you'll need to manually enable Help Me Write in Chrome M122. Click the three-dot menu, select settings, and find the Experimental AI page. After that, you can click to enable Help Me Write or disable it anytime afterward.
Simply right-click on any text box on a website in Chrome and select Help Me Write to bring up the AI text generator. Then, give it a prompt and watch Help Me Write generate text that can be inserted into the text box.
Help me write in Chrome M122 will join a few other existing AI features in the browser.
