Who Is Zlatan Ibrahimovic?

Born on October 3, 1981, in Malmö, Sweden, Zlatan Ibrahimovic overcame a rough upbringing to become a professional soccer star. He played for clubs in Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, England and Spain, nabbing multiple scoring titles while leading his teams to eight consecutive league championships. One of the sport's most polarizing figures, Ibrahimovic released a bestselling autobiography in 2011.

Soccer player Zlatan Ibrahimovic was born on October 3, 1981, in Malmö, Sweden, to a Bosnian father and a Croatian mother. His parents divorced when Ibrahimovic was 2, and he spent a difficult childhood in the immigrant-populated district of Rosengård. By his own account, Ibrahimovic was a bicycle thief and a school bully, but he developed into a tall, agile athlete with an obvious talent for playing soccer.

Professional Career

Ibrahimovic made his professional debut for Malmö FF in 1999, and helped the second-division club make the leap to the first level the following season. The 6'5" striker then signed with the prominent Dutch club AFC Ajax and honed his formidable skills as part of two title-winning teams, though he also developed a reputation as a temperamental player.

After four years with Ajax, Ibrahimovic transferred to Juventus F.C. and led the Italian club to two Serie A championships. However, Juventus was stripped of those titles when club management was charged with fixing matches in the infamous Calciopoli scandal, and Ibrahimovic forced a transfer to A.C. Milan. More success followed for the towering striker, who won three straight Serie A titles and claimed his first league scoring crown in 2009.

Traded to F.C. Barcelona for Samuel Eto'o in 2009, Ibrahimovic starred for a loaded club that rolled to a league title and Super Cup victories, but he butted heads with manager Pep Guardiola and spent the following season on loan to A.C. Milan. The Italian club purchased his contract outright for 2011-12 and Ibrahimovic claimed his second scoring crown, although his amazing streak of eight straight seasons on a title-winning club came to an end.

After transferring to Paris Saint-Germain in 2012, the veteran striker proved he had plenty left in the tank by claiming a third scoring title with a career-high 30 goals, and leading the club to its first Ligue 1 title in 19 years.

Moving on to Manchester United in 2016, Ibrahimovic helped the English club win the 2017 UEFA Europa League Final. He returned the following season, but did not play after aggravating a knee injury in late December.

In March 2018, the club confirmed it had terminated the veteran player's contract, allowing him to follow through with a move to join the L.A. Galaxy in the U.S. Ibrahimovic followed with a statement on Instagram: "Great things also come to an end and it is time to move on after two fantastic seasons with Manchester United. Thank you to the club, the fans, the team, the coach, the staff and everybody who shared with me this part of my history."

Public Image and Personal Life

One of soccer's most polarizing figures, the striker trademarked "Zlatan" and "Zlatan Ibrahimovic" in 2003, establishing exclusive naming rights for sporting apparel and other products throughout the European Union.

Ibrahimovic met his girlfriend, former Swedish model Helena Seger, early in his professional career. They have two children together.

The soccer star released his autobiography, I Am Zlatan Ibrahimovic , in late 2011. The bestselling memoir detailed Ibrahimovic's rough childhood and his clashes with Guardiola and other players, and an English version was published in September 2013.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic celebrates scoring Milan’s goal at Napoli last month

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the lion of Milan: 'He's 90% of that team'

The Swedish legend, now 39, has ‘resuscitated all of Milan’, is eager to mentor youngsters and has no thoughts of retirement

S ometimes Mino Raiola will walk over his client Zlatan Ibrahimovic . “While he’s doing a workout I just stand on him for a moment,” says the player’s agent, “and I’m not the lightest person. But Zlatan just continues with his push-ups.”

The Sweden striker is now 39 and for the vast majority of players who have played at the very top of the game over a long career retiring from a rigid training regime would be long overdue at such an age. But Ibrahimovic is playing at Milan this season as if he had just entered the spring of his career.

According to Raiola, Ibrahimovic is far from finished. “I won’t let him stop playing until he has to get carried off the pitch on a stretcher. He can continue until his 50th, but he only wants to play at the highest level,” says the agent. “You can see he can continue for the time being. He resuscitated all of Milan, he’s 90% of that team.”

Going into the weekend fixtures Milan are top of Serie A , one point ahead of the city rivals, Internazionale. Ibrahimovic has played 29 games since his return to San Siro in January. La Gazzetta dello Sport splashed him on its front page in royal costume. He was player of the month in October, when he struggled with Covid-19.

Shortly afterwards, a video appeared with Ibrahimovic warning the Lombardy region of the virus in his own way: “Corona challenged me but I won. But remember: you are not Zlatan, be careful.”

A year ago he was playing at LA Galaxy following a stint with Manchester United. The MLS is often regarded as the final hurrah for a top player. Yet he scored 52 goals in 56 appearances in the United States. And since his return to Milan for a second spell, he has revitalised the club. He has scored 20 goals in 24 games, including two critical goals in October’s Milan derby . He should be back from injury on Sunday when Milan take on Sassuolo.

In a sense, the veteran has become Milan’s figurehead. Udinese’s Dutch defender Bram Nuytinck is in awe of his impact. “Milan is Zlatan,” he says, echoing Raiola’s bold claim. “The squad has been incomparable since he returned. There is just really something special in the side now; a piece of power, quality, technique and appearance.

“He still picks up balls from two meters high with his foot from the air like it’s nothing.”

Nuytinck says of Udinese’s match last month: “It was just as difficult to play against him as the times I played against him before [in 2013 and 2017]. Normally you force yourself to win man-on-man duels. You don’t have to do it with him, he just uses your body to win the ball.”

Nuytinck was missing against Milan because of an injury when Ibrahimovic scored an acrobatic late winner. Without fans in the stadium, it was possible for the defender to hear Ibrahimovic urging his teammates: “Don’t play that ball back, I need it here,” Nuytinck says: “All the players listen to him. He enforces that by winning so much, still being so motivated and still having such an impressive physique.”

Jörgen Becke, Ibrahimovic’s fitness coach at his first club, Malmö, believed that the then 18-year-old “extremely lazy” Zlatan could deliver more power than the rest of his teammates and that his impressive trunk and side muscles were already on par with some of the best sprinters and high jumpers in Sweden at that time.

Over the years, Ibrahimovic became addicted to training. “I love to suffer through my training,” he told the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter in 2015. “It has to be hard, preferably every day. It’s like driving a fast car. It doesn’t want to drive slow, it wants to go fast. That pressure comes from me and no one else. As soon as I don’t achieve what I want to achieve, I get disappointed. Everything I do has to be perfect.”

Raiola says: “He knows his body very well, has only become more extreme in that department. It is almost exact science the way he lives for his sport. He can work with any fitness coach, but is above all his own personal trainer.”

And those of others, too. Raiola recalls when he had agreed with a teammate to take a helicopter tour. “They were due to fly at 11 in the morning, had played a game the night before. So that teammate says: ‘OK then, I’ll be with you at half past 10.’ ‘No,’ said Zlatan, ‘you’ll be there at half past eight.’ ‘What do you mean?’ the teammate said. ‘Well,’ said Zlatan, ‘we’re going to train for two hours first.’”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic after scoring for LA Galaxy against Sporting Kansas City

Such commitment influences his much younger teammates, believes Ruud Gullit. “The others don’t want to be left behind when he’s ahead,” he says. “That is why his arrival has been so important to Milan.

“I was raised as a young player by Martin Haar at Haarlem, by Cruyff and Van Hanegem at Feyenoord. You don’t have that kind of leader on the field any more. But they are so important.”

In the US, Ibrahimovic missed “the intrinsic discipline”, Raiola says. “Those years were a pity, really. He wanted to live in LA with his family, but had difficulties there. They didn’t want to win there as much as he did. Even if he plays a computer game, Zlatan has to win.”

Gullit, a former LA Galaxy coach, says: “It’s hard to build a good team in that league. A number of players can earn more but the rest must remain below a salary ceiling. That gives you big differences in quality.”

Pele van Anholt had just left LA Galaxy when Ibrahimovic, on his arrival, took out an advertisement in the LA Times congratulating the city. “Dear Los Angeles,” it read, “you’re welcome.”

Van Anholt believes such an attitude did not go down well with all his fellow players: “What I understood from former teammates was that they had trouble with the stamp he was trying to put on everyone, including off the field. That was suffocating. In America people are very careful with their dealings, Zlatan is straightforward.”Anyone who opens up finds an ally for life. Mark van Bommel clashed regularly with Ibrahimovic during games. At half-time in a game between Sweden and the Netherlands, Ibrahimovic kicked a ball at the Dutchman and told him to be careful. When they became teammates at Milan, Ibrahimovic helped the equally fiery Dutchman to settle in. They became such good friends that Zlatan attended Van Bommel’s farewell game and the Dutchman called his dog, a burly Rhodesian ridgeback, Ibra.

Ibrahimovic has struck up a close connection with the young Alkmaar striker Myron Boadu, another of Raiola’s clients. “When they were in America for knee surgery, Myron saw Zlatan doing abdominal exercises already the day after his surgery,” says Raiola.

Boadu says Ibrahimovic treated him like a friend and Raiola adds: “Zlatan is like a fruit bowl but you have to get the fruit yourself.” What he means is that Zlatan has a lot of advice and knowledge to offer but you have to be open to it: the fruit is there, but it doesn’t walk up to you by itself. You have to go and get it.

Zlatan’s public statements are certainly not short on self-confidence. In 2020 he compared himself on social media with a shark (once), a lion (five times) and God (10 times, once calling himself half devil, half God). But such displays of bravado do not reveal the true Ibrahimovic, Raiola says. “There is a wink in everything he does. And there is a serious undertone to all winks.

“He challenges himself with those statements. He is unimaginably self-critical. Failure does not suit him, it will drive him crazy. He doesn’t want to play well once, he has to play well all the time. And not only him, the whole team has to. And he succeeds.

“Where was Paris Saint-Germain before he came? Where was Milan? He sets the standard those clubs will benefit from for years to come. Also because of the way he deals with adversity. He always finds the strength to keep going.”

A striking example was the recent game aAgainst Verona last month, he missed a penalty but made amends by scoring the equaliser in injury time. “After that goal,” Nuytinck says, “his head was full of disappointment because of that missed penalty kick. You think: ‘He’s 39 years old, won more than 30 trophies, has plenty of money but still so down over that miss …’”

Gullit also sees another side of Ibrahimovic. “He’s not arrogant at all, simply a very nice, friendly guy to deal with, but on the pitch he’s a phenomenon, a beast. I understand he wants to continue playing football. It is the best thing there is when you are still fit. Stress? No, Zlatan has no stress. He only gets better.”

Raiola believes Ibrahimovic still has much to offer the game, let alone a Milan side who are seeking to maintain their status as Serie A frontrunners. “He still has the strength, but because of his acquired reputation, he also has the power to pass something on to the next generation. That’s why he has to go on as long as possible.’

championships.

After transferring to

in 2012, the veteran claimed a third scoring title with a career-high 30 goals and leading the club to its first Ligue 1 title in 19 years.

Moving on to Manchester United in 2016, Ibrahimovic helped the English club win the 2017 UEFA Europa League Final. He returned the following season but did not play after aggravating a knee injury in late December.

Vincent Ibrahimović

. The family has a bulldog named Trustor.

Zlatan’s wife is a successful businesswoman who earns millions of dollars. Her net worth is estimated to be around $160 million.

An interesting fact about Zlatan's wife is that she only lets him hang one picture of himself at home, and it's not of his face.

This is because Zlatan’s wife says there is "already enough talk" of him and it is enough that she sees him in real life, so she does not want him on her walls!

The picture Zlatan chose to hang was not even of his face, and there is a good reason why.

"My wife does not allow me to have pictures of myself," he said. "She says, 'There is already enough talk of you and I don't want to see you on the walls. It is enough that I see you in real life.'"

The one photograph Zlatan chose to have at home, was one that showed his feet, namely, the two things that made him one of the most famous people in the sport world.

Zlatan quotes

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a man not short on confidence. A lot of what he says to the media after games and in press conferences is tongue in cheek, but underneath the humor lies a powerful message.

Speaking to a reporter about who would qualify for the 2014 World Cup, Zlatan said, “Only God knows who will go through.” The reporter replied, “It’s hard to ask him.” And he answered, “You’re talking to him.”

After humiliating Liverpool’s Steven Henchoz, Zlatan said to reporters, “First I went left; he did too. Then I went right and he did too. Then I went left again and he went to buy a hot dog.”

Defying logic and getting better in old age she said, “I think I am difficult to satisfy, because when I win something, I’m already thinking about the next step, and that is maybe a problem for me. I’m not enjoying the moment. I’m already on the mission to win the next trophy.”

Zlatan said on his departure from PSG in May 2016, “I came as a king and I left as a legend.”

Zlatan Charity works

In 2014, Zlatan donated over $50,000 for a team of intellectually disabled players from Sweden to participate in the INAS World Football Championships.

“Football should be played by anyone, regardless of gender, disability or not. And when we missed the World Cup, I was deeply disappointed, but when I heard about “the unknown team” I said to myself that I wanted to do everything in my power to help them to experience the World Cup. There was nothing to think about. It was a given. Now I get to experience the World Cup through them,” Zlatan said to reporters.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has recently launched a fundraiser to help fight COVID-19, aiming for €1million for Humanitas hospitals. In a video posted on Twitter he said:

“I decided together with the people who are working with me to create a fundraiser for Humanitas hospitals and to use my communication power to spread the message wider.”

“I count on the generosity of my colleagues, of all professional athletes and of those who want to make a small or large donation according to their possibilities to kick this virus away.”

He said, “If the virus doesn’t go to Zlatan, Zlatan goes to the virus,” as usual, referring to himself in third person

reflecting his sense of self-worth!

Zlatan Tattoos

Ibrahimovic is known for showing off his body ink when celebrating. He even said in his autobiography ‘I am Zlatan’ that tattoos became "like a drug for me."

Once Zlatan tattooed 15 names on his body for the United Nations. It was reported that 805 million people suffer from hunger in the world: an enormous figure that does not often make the headlines.

To draw attention to this problem, the United Nations World Food Program – the largest humanitarian organization fighting hunger worldwide, initiated the ‘805 million names’ awareness campaign, starring football player Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Zlatan, then PSG striker and captain of the Swedish national team, put his talent and fame to the service of WFP to bring to light the reality of those suffering from hunger, whether they are struck by war, natural disasters or extreme poverty.

To give voice to these people, Zlatan revealed, during a live football match, the names of 15 individuals, all suffering from hunger – tattooed to his body.

“Wherever I go people recognize me, call my name, cheer for me. But there are names no one cares to remember. That no one cheers for: the 805 million people suffering from hunger in the world today. I have supporters all over the world. From now on I want this support to go to the people who really need it. So whenever you hear my name, you will think of their names. Whenever you see me, you will see them”, said Zlatan.

Later, he revealed that the names have been temporarily inked on his chest to highlight world famine around the world.

Zlatan said on his tattoos, “The first tattoo I got was my name across my waist in white ink. You can only see it when I have a tan. It was mainly a test.” To the side of this, he has got the message inked, “Only God can judge me.”

Ibrahimovic has inked the birthdates of all his family members, including his parents, wife, and two sons on both of his wrists.

The superstar made a clean breast in his book ‘

I am Zlatan

’ that getting inked became like a drug for him. Ibrahimović said getting a tattoo provided him with a “boost” – even though he once could not hold the thought of one.

He added, “I was against them in the beginning. Thought they were in bad taste. But I got tempted anyway.”

Zlatan cars

A noticeable fact about the Swedish footballer is that he is worth upwards of $200 million and all of that money has allowed him to amass quite an impressive car collection. His latest ride is a rare Ferrari Monza SP2.

Zlatan is no stranger to driving expensive cars and is known to also own a LaFerrari and a Porsche 918 Spyder.

In general, Zlatan owns a Laferrari ($2.2 million), Lamborghini Gallardo ($20, 2000), Ferrari Monza SP2 ($1.75 million), Porsche 918 Spyder ($845,000), Ferrari Enzo ($3 million), Volvo XC90 ($49,345), and Maserati GranTurismo ($107,000).

Zlatan net worth and salary

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of the most recognizable names in the world of international soccer, so it’s no surprise that he has a massive net worth. He is generally ranked along with the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and if you ask him, there is no question that Zlatan is the greatest player of all time.

The final fact is about

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s

, which is around $195 million as of 2020. In the beginning of 2020, Ibrahimovic made a return to Italy, signing an initial six-month, $3.9 million deal with his former club, AC Milan, while he was 38 years old.

Most soccer players end their playing careers during their mid-30s, but simply put, Ibrahimovic is unlike most other footballers.

According to reports, Ibrahimović earns an estimated $10 million per year on his endorsements alone. At the peak of his popularity, he had endorsement contracts with Nike, Microsoft Xbox, Nivea, Samsung, and Volvo.

About I Am Zlatan

Daring, flashy, innovative, volatile—no matter what they call him, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of soccer’s brightest stars. A top-scoring striker and captain of the Swedish national team, he has dominated the world’s most storied teams, including Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. But his life wasn’t always so charmed.   Born to Balkan immigrants who divorced when he was a toddler, Zlatan learned self-reliance from his rough-and-tumble neighborhood. While his father, a Bosnian Muslim, drank to forget the war back home, his mother’s household was engulfed in chaos. Soccer was Zlatan’s release. Mixing in street moves and trick plays, Zlatan was a wild talent who rode to practice on stolen bikes and relished showing up the rich kids—opponents and teammates alike. Goal by astonishing goal, the brash young outsider grew into an unlikely prodigy and, by his early twenties, an international phenomenon.   Told as only the man himself could tell it, featuring stories of friendships and feuds with the biggest names in the sport, I Am Zlatan is a wrenching, uproarious, and ultimately redemptive tale for underdogs everywhere. Praise for I Am Zlatan “Terrific . . . Far more insightful than your typical jock memoir, Ibra’s book tells his story of growing up as the son of immigrants in Sweden and pulls no punches when it comes to his opinions of some of the biggest names in the game.” — Sports Illustrated “The most compelling autobiography ever to appear under a footballer’s name.” — The Guardian   “The story of Zlatan—from his days as an immigrant kid juggling a soccer ball so he won’t get bullied to his emergence as the genius player who scored the greatest goal ever—is as compelling and fancy-footed as his game.” —Aleksandar Hemon, National Book Award finalist and author of The Lazarus Project “I love this book. I love it because it’s so much bigger than soccer.  I Am Zlatan  is a story of hope and grit and what an immigrant kid who comes from nothing can accomplish with hard work and belief in himself. It’s also a beautiful window into our new, more open, more diverse world.” —Marcus Samuelsson, bestselling author of  Yes, Chef   “Probably the bestselling European immigrant’s tale since Zadie Smith’s  White Teeth  . . . Once you get past the obligatory snigger prompted by the phrase ‘footballer’s autobiography,’ you can see that Zlatan’s book strangely resembles an earlier immigrant’s tale:  Portnoy’s Complaint .” —Financial Times “He is skillful. He is outspoken. He is Zlatan.” — The New York Times   “The best sports autobiography in years.” — PolicyMic

Biography of Zlatan Ibrahimović

Zlatan ibrahimović – football player.

Full name: Zlatan Ibrahimović

Date of birth: 3 October 1981 (age 35)

Place of birth: Malmö, Sweden

Height: 1.95 m (6 ft 5 in)

Playing position: Striker

Spouse/Partner: Helena Seger

Children: Maximilian Ibrahimović, Vincent Ibrahimović

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was born on October 3, 1981, in Malmö, Sweden. He is a Swedish professional footballer who plays as a striker for French club Paris Saint-Germain and the Sweden national team for which he is captain.

He played for clubs in Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain, nabbing multiple scoring titles while leading his teams to eight consecutive league championships. One of the sport’s most polarizing figures, Ibrahimovic released a bestselling autobiography in 2011.

Ibrahimović began his career at Malmö FF in the late 1990s before being signed by Ajax, where he made a name for himself. He signed for Juventus and excelled in Serie A in a strike partnership with David Trezeguet. In 2006, he signed for rival side Inter Milan and was named to the UEFA Team of the Year in both 2007 and 2009. In addition, Ibrahimović would finish as the league’s top scorer in 2008–09 and win three straight Scudetti. In the summer of 2009, he transferred to Barcelona, before moving back to Serie A football the following season, joining A.C. Milan in a deal that made him one of the highest-paid players in the world. He won another Scudetto with Milan in the 2010–2011 season. He joined Paris Saint-Germain in July 2012. During his four-season stay at PSG, Ibrahimović won four consecutive Ligue 1 titles, three Coupes de la Ligue, two Coupes de France and was the top scorer in Ligue 1 for three seasons. In October 2015, he became PSG’s all time leading goalscorer. He finished his PSG career with 156 goals in 180 competitive matches.

He is one of ten players to have made 100 or more appearances for the Swedish national team. He is the country’s all-time leading goalscorer with 62 goals. He represented Sweden at the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups, as well as the 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 UEFA European Championships. He has been awarded Guldbollen (the Golden Ball), given to the Swedish player of the year, a record eleven times, including ten consecutive times from 2007 and 2016.

His spectacular bicycle kick for Sweden against England won the 2013 FIFA Puskás Award for Goal of the Year. Off the field, he is known for his brash persona and outspoken comments, in addition to referring to himself in the third person. In December 2013, Ibrahimović was ranked by The Guardian as the third-best player in the world, behind only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. In December 2014, the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter named him the second-greatest Swedish sportsperson of all time, after tennis player Björn Borg.

Childhood and Personal Life

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was born on October 3, 1981, in Malmö, Sweden, to a Bosnian father and a Croatian mother. His father was born in Bijeljina, Bosnia, and his mother was born in the village of Prkos near Škabrnja in Croatia’s Zadar County.

His parents divorced when Ibrahimovic was 2, and he spent a difficult childhood in the immigrant-populated district of Rosengård. By his own account, Ibrahimovic was a bicycle thief and a school bully, but he developed into a tall, agile with an obvious talent for playing soccer.

After receiving a pair of football boots, Ibrahimović began playing at the age of six, alternating between local junior clubs Malmö BI and FBK Balkan. While in his early teens, he was a regular for his hometown club Malmö FF. At the age of 15, Ibrahimović was close to quitting his football career, in favour of working at the docks in Malmö, but his manager convinced him to continue playing.

Ibrahimovic met his girlfriend, former Swedish model Helena Seger, early in his professional career. They have two children together.

The soccer star released his autobiography, I Am Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in late 2011. The bestselling memoir detailed Ibrahimovic’s rough childhood and his clashes with Guardiola and other players, and an English version was published in September 2013.

On 11 August 2014, Ibrahimović paid US$51,000 to send the Swedish national football team for the intellectually disabled to the INAS World Football Championships in Brazil.

Ibrahimović is a notable religious syncretist, drawing from the Islamic, Catholic and Buddhist spiritual traditions.

Playing Career

Ibrahimovic made his professional debut for Malmö FF in 1999, and helped the second-division club make the leap to the first level the following season. The 6’5″ striker then signed with the prominent Dutch club AFC Ajax and honed his formidable skills as part of two title-winning teams, though he also developed a reputation as a temperamental player.

After four years with Ajax, Ibrahimovic transferred to Juventus F.C. and led the Italian club to two Serie A championships. However, Juventus was stripped of those titles when club management was charged with fixing matches in the infamous Calciopoli scandal, and Ibrahimovic forced a transfer to Inter Milan. More success followed for the towering striker, who won three straight Serie A titles and claimed his first league scoring crown in 2009.

In 2006, Ibrahimovic signed with rivals Internazionale, where he won individual awards like the Italian Oscar del Calcio and the Swedish Guldbollen, and was named in the 2007 and 2009 UEFA Team of the Year.

Ibrahimović moved from Ajax to Juventus for €16 million. He was promptly inserted into the starting eleven due in part to top scorer David Trezeguet’s injury problems, and scored 16 goals. Near the end of the season, Juventus reportedly rejected a €70 million bid for him from Real Madrid, which was later revealed to be a publicity stunt initiated by Ibrahimović’s agent, Mino Raiola, in order to increase his market value. On 14 November 2005, he was awarded the Guldbollen, a prize awarded to the best Swedish footballer of the year.

Traded to F.C. Barcelona for Samuel Eto’o in 2009, Ibrahimovic starred for a loaded club that rolled to a league title and Super Cup victories, but he butted heads with manager Pep Guardiola and spent the following season on loan to A.C.

On 1 July 2016, Ibrahimović signed as a free agent for Manchester United on a one-year contract, which had the option of being extended depending on his performance for the club. His salary is reported to be £200,000 per week. He was handed the number 9 jersey ahead of the 2016–17 season.

Ibrahimovic is one of ten players to have made 100 or more appearances for the Swedish national team, and is the country’s all time leading goalscorer in international matches with 57 goals. He has represented Sweden at the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups, as well as the 2004, 2008 and 2012 UEFA European Championships.

Ibrahimović was eligible to represent Sweden, Bosnia and Herzegovina or Croatia at international level; he chose Sweden. He made his debut for Sweden in a 0–0 friendly draw against the Faroe Islands at Tipshallen on 31 January 2001 during the 2000–01 Nordic Football Championship.

Ibrahimović was called up for a Euro 2008 qualifier against Liechtenstein on 6 September 2006, but two days before the match, he violated team curfew by leaving the hotel with teammates Christian Wilhelmsson and Olof Mellberg, visiting a nightclub.

Ibrahimović was awarded the 2007 Swedish Golden Ball as the “Country’s Top Player of the Year”.

Ibrahimovic scored a goal in a 4–0 win against Malta on 10 June 2009 in a 2010 World Cup qualifier. On 5 September 2009, he scored a last second goal in Stadium Puskás Ferenc against Hungary in a 2–1 win for Sweden in their qualification match.

At the Euro 2012 finals, Ibrahimovic scored the opening goal in Sweden’s first game against Ukraine. He then scored with a volley, later considered the goal of the tournament, to open the score in Sweden’s 2–0 win against France in the last group match. Despite the victory, Sweden was knocked out in the group stage.

On 16 March 2014, Ibrahimovic scored both goals in a 2–0 win over Saint-Étienne to surpass Carlos Bianchi’s club record of 39 goals in a season. On 11 May, he was named Ligue 1’s player of the year for the second consecutive season

In October 2012, Ibrahimovic scored Sweden’s first goal as they came from 4–0 down to draw 4–4 in a 2014 World Cup qualifier against Germany in Berlin. It was the first time in its history that the German national team had not won a match after leading by four goals.

On 14 November 2012, he scored all four goals in a 4–2 win over England in the first ever match at the Friends Arena. His fourth goal, a 35-yard overhead kick with his back to goal, won him praise from players and pundits, with the BBC describing it as a goal that “combined unfathomable imagination and expert technique”. It would win the 2013 FIFA Puskás Award for Goal of the Year.

On 14 August 2013, Ibrahimovic scored another international hat-trick at the Friends Arena, scoring Sweden’s first three goals in a 4–2 friendly win against Scandinavian rivals Norway.

On 4 September 2014, Ibrahimović scored his 50th international goal in a 2–0 friendly match victory over Estonia, making him the Swedish national team’s all-time leading goalscorer. Earlier in the same match, he equaled Sven Rydell’s record of 49 by scoring the opening goal. On 8 September, he made his 100th appearance for Sweden in a Euro 2016 qualifier against Austria at the Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna.

On 11 May 2016, Ibrahimović made the final 23-man squad for Sweden at Euro 2016. As captain, he played every minute of Sweden’s three group matches, but did not score any goals.

On 21 June 2016, Ibrahimović announced that he would retire from international football immediately after Sweden’s last match at Euro 2016.

While naturally right-footed, Ibrahimović is a powerful and accurate striker of the ball from both inside or outside the penalty area with either foot, and is also known for his accuracy from penalties and dead ball situations. An accurate finisher with his head as well as with his feet, his height, elevation, and strength often give him an advantage at winning aerial challenges, and also allow him to function as a “target man”; despite his large stature, Ibrahimović is uncommonly agile for a player of his size, and his athleticism and ability in the air have seen him score several goals from acrobatic strikes and volleys throughout his career, which earned him the monicker Ibracadabra in the Italian media. In spite of his size and physique, Ibrahimović possesses excellent technique and ball control, which, coupled with his balance, power, and physicality, enables him to hold up the ball well with his back to goal, retain possession, and link up with other players; he has also been praised by pundits for his creativity and dribbling skills.

The rapper was brought to the limelight after the release of his popular Olamide-assisted hit track, My Body , in 2017, in addition to his subsequent singles Zunku (Legwork), which was accompanied by a novel dance routine, and his 2019 most popular hit song Yeye Boyfriend .

Zlatan Ibile is also famous for his popular slang “Kapaichumarimarichopaco,” which has clinched to the lips of most music lovers in the country. This further made him gain more popularity in the Nigerian music scene.

Zlatan Ibile Biography and Profile

  • Full name: Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael
  • Stage Name: Zlatan Ibile
  • Date of Birth: December 19, 1994
  • Age: 29 Years Old
  • Place of Birth: Ilorin, Kwara state Nigeria
  • State of origin: Ekiti State
  • Profession: Singer, Songwriter, Rapper
  • Genre: Hip hop, Afrobeat
  • Most popular songs: Zanku, Yeye Boyfriend, Bolanle
  • Education: Moshood Abiola Polytechnic

He Is From Ekiti But Was Born In Kwara State, Nigeria

Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael was born in Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara state, on December 19, 1994, though he is a native of Ekiti State. Meanwhile, he had spent some part of his childhood in Ilorin before moving to Lagos, where he completed his secondary education. Zlatan Ibile had a strong craving for football than music from his childhood, as many fans may have thought.

He had even wished to become a footballer and is an ardent fan of the football icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic – this was obviously what inspired his stage name as a singer. Coming from a poor background, Zlatan struggled to complete his secondary education. He even proceeded to the higher institution at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Ogun State, where he majored in Business administration and earned a National Diploma in the course in 2011.

Meanwhile, Zlatan fully harnessed his music potentials during his polytechnic days, which led him to win the One Mic Campus Tour music competition, sponsored by the telecommunications giant- Airtel Nigeria . Incredibly, Zlatan was only 19 years old at that time. At the same time, he had started nursing the idea of venturing into music since his secondary school. That being said, his education may have positively influenced his later career as a singer.

Zlatan Ibile Was Raised By Conservative Parents

Surprisingly, Zlatan came from a family of fervent Christian faithful as his father is said to be a clergyman at the Redeem Christian Church of God. This implies that he was brought up along with his siblings following the tenets of Christianity which the family dearly upholds.

In essence, he has been more of a church boy while growing up, owing to the expectations that the Pastors’ children have to be equally very active with church activities. Thus, he joined the church band, where he became a drummer in the church choir. Be that as it may, being born without a silver spoon, Zlatan did not have such a rosy childhood as his family was said to have struggled financially. Growing up, Zlatan could not enjoy the much-expected luxuries of life as his other well-to-do friends to the extent that he had to take up some menial jobs like bricklaying and grass cutting to support himself and his family, which he revealed in an interview with BBC Pidgin .

His Career kicked Off When He Was 19 Years Old

The king of street Music, Zlatan Ibile’s career could be said to have kicked off when he was only 19 years old. His journey to fame was quite a swift one, and it all started shortly after he completed his secondary school when he stumbled into one of his friends who told him that he had been going to a music studio and that he had even recorded a song. This revelation instantly ignited the innate music passion of Zlatan. From that point, he also decided to start going to the studio alongside his friend with the conviction that he could do better than his friend as he already has the talent coupled with the fact that he had gained singing experience while he was in his church choir.

By the time Zlatan Ibile was admitted into the polytechnic, he had already pictured himself becoming a musician. His first experience with the mic played out when he got into the One Mic Campus Tour, a music completion put together in his school by Airtel, and as fate will have it, Zlatan put in his best and wowed the crowd with his talent. Consequently, this later saw him emerging as the competition’s overall winner, thus driving home the grand prize of a luxury car. This feat watered the ground for his later exploits in the music industry.

My Body (2017), Brought Zlatan Ibile To Limelight

As soon as the afrobeat rapper stormed the Nigerian music industry, he became easily identifiable with his catchphrase Kapaichumarimarichopaco. His first studio experiment came in 2016 when he recorded his song Odun Yi ; his friends within the neighborhood applauded his effort. Again in 2017, he was also able to drop another track titled Omoge , this track turned to be better than his first song, yet these two songs could not accord him the desired national recognition in the industry.

Luckily for Zlatan, he got the golden opportunity to feature the Afrobeats and hip hop superstar Olamide who is already a household name in the music industry. In this regard, Zlatan, along with Olamide , released the hit single My Body in 2017, this became his game-changer as the collaboration thrilled his growing fans, and it became a massive hit track, thereby giving Zlatan nationwide recognition while the song trended.

It is as the result of this track that he caught the attention of Mr. Lawrence Irabo, the co-owner of Alleluyah Boiz Entertainment (A.B.E), who saw the great potentials in Zlatan and decided to sign him to the record label in 2018.

Also, still in 2018, Zlatan was featured in the monstrous hit track Able God by the music sensation Chinko Ekun. This song also improved Zlatan Ibile’s popularity a great deal. However, all of those were just the tip of the iceberg as his next hit song Zanku (Legwork), skyrocketed and turned him into a very prominent superstar.

The soaring success of Zanku (which literally means Zlatan Abeg No Kill Us) was not unconnected to the new dance routine that accompanied the song, which has now become one of the most trending latest dance routines for millions of fans nationwide even internationally. Again, in 2018 Zlatan had another successful collaboration with one of the most popular Nigerian celebrities and musical icon Davido in another chart-topping single, Osanle , which was widely accepted by fans.

Additionally, the Afrobeats rapper featured the African musical figure Burna Boy in the track Killing Dem which became an award-winning song and got him several prestigious awards and nominations. Yet again, Zlatan also featured Nigerian hip hop goddess Tiwa Savage in the single Shotan. With these eminent collaborations, Zlatan has now proven his worth in the music industry.

Zlatan Ibile kept wowing his fans back to back, and in 2019, he released the masterpiece tracks YeYe Boyfriend and Bolanle , which are in his album Zanku . These tracks became exceptionally popular. Particularly, YeYe Boyfriend turned out to be the most popular song of the year and could be said to have attained the status of an anthem on the lips of every music lover in Nigeria and beyond.

The rapper kept adding more songs to his library with other hits such as The Matter, Unripe Pawpaw , and several other thrilling songs. Recently, his years of hard work finally paid off as he became officially recognized and honored with awards and many nominations notable among them are

  • Headies Award for Best Collaboration Burna Boy and Zlatan for Killin Dem in 2019.
  • African Muzik Magazine Awards for the Song of the Year Best Collaboration for Killin Dem

With this, it is clear that more awards are still underway for the young rapper as we watch him climb to the peak of his career.
