How to do a CV on your phone

5 min read · Updated on October 25, 2022

Learn how to create and send a CV on your phone when you're on the go

There are a few reasons why you might want to create a CV on your phone. The most common include not having a laptop to hand and wanting to send a last-minute application for a job you saw while browsing on the go.

While tricky, you can make a CV on your phone, regardless of whether it's an iPhone or Android, and send it from your mobile device. Here are our best practices to consider.

How to create a CV on your phone

It's not unprofessional to do a CV on your phone and email a job application, especially if you're pressed for time. Here are three tips:

Install the right apps

Start by installing the app that you will use to write your CV. Your primary options on mobile are Google Docs (which is free) and Microsoft Word (which is paid).

If you're making use of your time on your daily commute and intend to send the CV when you get home, you can use a notes app like Google Keep or Microsoft OneNote, that will sync with your laptop or PC, making it easier to transfer the information.

Word has some plus points if you're writing a CV on mobile. Not only does it show the document in mobile view when you're typing, but it also shows a print layout view so that you can see exactly how a hiring manager would see it when attached to an email.

Use a CV template

Most of us know that a CV has five essential sections:

Contact details

Professional profile

Employment history

Education and qualifications

While you can type these out and start listing the contents, you will then have to format the document, which can be difficult on such a small screen. We would recommend downloading a CV template that's pre-formatted and opening it in your writing app to amend it.

Consider the file name

Even though you're crafting a CV on mobile and you might be in a hurry, don't forget to pay attention to the file name. We would recommend structuring it as “firstname_lastname_CV” or “firstname_lastname_CV_vacancyjobtitle.”

Best to get this right from when you start typing, rather than titling the document “CV draft” and planning to change it later. You might accidentally forget and send it anyway.

How to email a CV from your phone

There are a few ways to email a CV from your phone as part of your application. Here is a breakdown by app and mobile device.

Option 1: Google Doc from iPhone

If you've written your CV in a Google Doc on your iPhone, tap the three dots in the top left-hand corner, select “Share and export,” then “Save as Word (.docx).” A new version of the document will appear as a Word file.

Then close the file, view it in the folder in your Google Drive, click the three dots on the file, and select “Send a copy.” From there, select your email app and a new email will open with your CV attached.

Option 2: Word file from iPhone

If you've written your CV in a Word file on your iPhone, tap the three dots in the top left-hand corner and select “Send a copy.” From there, select your email app and a new email will open with your CV attached.

While we would recommend sending your CV as a Word file, you can export the CV as a PDF by tapping the three dots, selecting “Export,” and then “PDF(*.pdf).” From there you can store the file on your phone and attach it to an email.

Option 3: Google Doc from Android

If you've written your CV in a Google Doc on an Android phone, view the file in the folder in your Google Drive, click the three dots on the file, select “Send a copy,” and choose “Word (.docx)” or “PDF document (.pdf).” From there, select your email app and a new email will open with your CV attached.

Option 4: Word file from Android

If you've written your CV in a Word file on an Android phone, tap the three dots in the top left-hand corner and select “share,” “share as an attachment,” “Document” or “PDF,” and a new email will open with your CV attached.

Final checks

Before you send your CV to the hiring manager, always send a test to yourself first so that you can check for any glitches and fix them before sending the real deal.

Do not create shareable links for your documents either. It's always best to upload your CV as an attachment rather than emailing a shareable link, in case there are any access issues.

Don't forget to write your cover letter in the body copy of your email and state that your CV is attached .

If time is on your side and doing a CV on your phone seems a little too fiddly, why not contact a professional CV writing service that will do the heavy lifting for you?

When it comes to creating a resume on your iPhone, the first step is to choose the right resume building app. There are numerous apps available on the App Store that claim to offer the best resume-building features. However, not all of them are created equal. Here are a few key factors to consider when selecting the best resume building app:

1. User-Friendly Interface: Look for an app that has an intuitive and user-friendly interface. You want a seamless and hassle-free experience while creating your resume on your iPhone. The app should have easy navigation, drag-and-drop functionality, and customizable templates.

2. Template Selection: The app should offer a wide range of professionally designed templates that cater to different industries and job positions. Choose an app that provides templates for both traditional and modern resume formats.

3. Customization Options: The ability to customize your resume is essential. Look for an app that allows you to easily edit and format the text, add sections, change the font styles, and customize the layout. This will ensure that your resume reflects your unique skills and experiences.

4. Exporting and Sharing Options: After creating your resume, you’ll want to export it in a format that is widely accepted. Look for an app that allows you to export your resume in formats such as PDF or Word. Additionally, the app should provide options for sharing your resume directly from your iPhone via email or cloud storage services.

5. Reviews and Ratings: Before making a final decision, check the reviews and ratings of the app on the App Store. This will give you an idea of the user experience and the overall satisfaction of other users who have used the app to create their resumes.

By considering these factors, you can choose the best resume building app that meets your specific needs and helps you create a professional and impressive resume on your iPhone.

When it comes to formatting your resume on your iPhone, there are several key considerations to keep in mind. Here are some tips to ensure your resume looks professional and polished:

1. Choose a clean and professional font: Selecting the right font is crucial for your resume. Stick to clean and professional fonts like Arial, Calibri, or Helvetica. These fonts are easy to read and widely accepted in the business world.

2. Use proper spacing: Ensure that your resume has enough white space to make it visually appealing. Use spacing techniques such as line breaks and indentation to separate sections and make your resume easy to navigate.

3. Keep it concise: While it may be tempting to include every detail about your work history, it’s important to keep your resume concise. Focus on the most relevant information and avoid unnecessary, lengthy paragraphs.

4. Utilize bullet points: Bullet points are a great way to present information in a clear and organized manner. Use bullet points to highlight your achievements, skills, and responsibilities. This format makes it easy for employers to scan your resume quickly.

5. Incorporate headings and subheadings: Structure your resume using headings and subheadings to categorize different sections. This makes it easier for employers to find the information they are looking for quickly. Use bold or capitalize the headings to make them stand out.

6. Check for consistency: Ensure that the formatting is consistent throughout your resume. Use the same font, size, and formatting style for each section. Consistency shows attention to detail and professionalism.

7. Proofread: Before finalizing your resume on your iPhone, it’s essential to proofread it carefully. Check for any spelling or grammatical errors and make sure the formatting is intact. A well-polished resume reflects your attention to detail and dedication.

8. Review it on a larger screen: While formatting your resume on your iPhone is convenient, it’s a good idea to review it on a larger screen if possible. This will allow you to see your resume in its entirety and ensure that the formatting looks consistent and professional.

By following these formatting tips, you can create a visually appealing and well-organized resume using your iPhone. Remember that a well-presented resume can make a lasting impression on potential employers and increase your chances of landing your dream job.

Once you’ve chosen the best resume building app on your iPhone and formatted your resume to your liking, it’s time to focus on adding the essential information that will make your resume stand out. While the specific details will vary depending on your profession and experience, there are some key sections that should be included in any resume.

1. Contact Information: The first section of your resume should include your full name, phone number, email address, and professional website or LinkedIn profile. Make sure your contact information is up to date and easily accessible for potential employers.

2. Professional Summary: This short paragraph is an opportunity to highlight your skills, experience, and qualifications. It should provide a concise overview of who you are as a professional and what you can bring to the table.

3. Work Experience: In this section, list your previous work experiences in reverse chronological order. Include the job title, company name, dates of employment, and a brief description of your responsibilities and achievements for each role. Use action verbs and quantify your accomplishments whenever possible.

4. Education: Include relevant education information, such as degree, major, educational institution, and graduation date. If you have any additional certifications or professional development courses, be sure to include them as well.

5. Skills: Highlight your key skills that are relevant to the desired position. This can include technical skills, software proficiency, language proficiency, or any other skills that set you apart from other candidates.

6. Projects or Portfolio: If applicable, showcase any relevant projects, portfolio items, or side hustles that demonstrate your abilities and accomplishments. Provide a brief description and include links or attachments for further review.

7. Awards and Achievements: If you have received any awards, recognitions, or notable achievements in your field, be sure to include them in this section. It helps to validate your skills and expertise.

Remember to keep the information concise and relevant. Focus on the skills and experiences that directly align with the job you are applying for. By including these essential sections, your resume will provide a comprehensive overview of your qualifications and increase your chances of landing the job.

In conclusion, creating a resume on your iPhone is a convenient and efficient way to showcase your skills and qualifications. With the advancements in mobile technology, you can now easily craft professional resumes on the go, without the need for a computer or specialized software.

By utilizing resume building apps, such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or Resume Builder, you can easily format your resume, add necessary sections like education, work experience, and skills, and even customize the design according to your preferences.

Remember to pay attention to the details, proofread your resume thoroughly, and make sure it reflects your qualifications and achievements accurately. Additionally, keep in mind the importance of tailoring your resume to each job application to increase your chances of landing an interview.

Creating an Efficient Layout for Your Resume on your iPhone

When it comes to creating an efficient layout for your resume on your iPhone, there are a few key things to keep in mind. First and foremost, you want to make sure that your resume is easy to read and navigate. This means organizing your information in a clear and concise manner, using headings and subheadings to break up the content, and utilizing bullet points to highlight your achievements.

One of the best ways to create an efficient layout for your resume on your iPhone is by using a template or pre-designed format. There are many apps available that offer ready-made resume templates specifically designed for mobile devices. These templates often have built-in sections for different parts of your resume such as contact information, work experience, education, skills, and references. By using these templates as a starting point, you can easily customize them with your own information while ensuring that the overall layout remains clean and professional.

In addition to using a template or pre-designed format, another important aspect of creating an efficient layout for your resume on your iPhone is choosing the right font size and style. You want to select a font that is clear and legible even on smaller screens. Avoid using overly decorative or hard-to-read fonts as they can distract from the content of your resume.

Lastly, don’t forget about visual elements such as spacing and alignment. It’s important to leave enough white space between sections so that each piece of information stands out independently. Additionally, aligning text properly will give it a polished look and make it easier for hiring managers or recruiters who may be reviewing resumes on their iPhones.

By following these tips – organizing information effectively with headings/subheadings/bullet points/formatting/alignment/choosing appropriate font size/style/templates -, you can create an efficient layout for their resumes on iPhones without compromising readability or professionalism.

Polishing and Saving Your Resume Using iPhone Features

So you’re on the hunt for a new job, and you’ve finally finished crafting your resume. But wait, before you hit that send button and unleash it into the world, have you considered polishing it up using your trusty iPhone? That’s right folks, our beloved pocket-sized device isn’t just for sending emojis and scrolling through social media feeds – it can also be a powerful tool to make your resume shine!

First things first, let’s talk about formatting. Remember how important first impressions are? Well, the same goes for resumes. With the help of your iPhone’s Notes app or any other word processing application available in the App Store (there are plenty of great ones out there), you can easily create a clean and professional-looking document. Use bold tags to emphasize key sections like “Work Experience” or “Skills,” ensuring that potential employers can quickly see what sets you apart from other candidates.

Now that we’ve tackled formatting let’s move on to another crucial aspect: spelling and grammar. We all know how embarrassing those pesky typos can be – they can instantly turn off hiring managers who are looking for attention to detail! Fear not though because with built-in features like autocorrect and spell check on your iPhone keyboard, spotting those sneaky errors has never been easier. Take advantage of them by proofreading your resume meticulously before hitting submit.

Lastly but certainly not least is adding some flair to make yourself really stand out! Grabbing someone’s attention amongst a pile of resumes is no easy feat these days. But fret not dear job-seeker because thanks to modern technology, there are various ways to inject creativity into this fairly standardized document.

Consider using bullet lists in HTML format within appropriate sections such as Education or Achievements – these will break up long blocks of text while still conveying information effectively. And hey, why stop at words when multimedia elements like hyperlinks could be utilized too? If relevant, include clickable links to your online portfolio or LinkedIn profile. It adds that extra touch of professionalism and shows potential employers you are tech-savvy.

So there you have it – a brief guide on how to polish and save your resume using the fantastic features of your iPhone. With its formatting capabilities, spelling and grammar checks, as well as opportunities for creativity, this little device can truly make a difference in helping you land that dream job. Now go ahead, put those fingertips to work and let your resume shine!

How to List Phone Skills on a Resume: Best Skills and Examples

Phone Skills | Best Skills & Examples

Quick Navigation

Why do employers want to see phone skills on your resume?

What to include in a phone skills resume, how to demonstrate phone skills on your resume, examples of phone skills to include on your resume, how to improve your phone skills, phone skills resume example.

Many jobs today require excellent phone skills, from sales roles to receptionists. The key to showing employers that you are the best candidate for the job may be to highlight your phone skills in your resume. Learn about what skills to include and how to include them with examples to guide you.

Employers want to see phone skills on a resume because they want to make sure you can communicate effectively over the phone and use complicated operating systems skillfully. Most jobs require some phone usage, whether answering calls in the front office, making cold calls for sales or simply joining in on company meetings.

When creating your phone skills resume, you should include the following details:

  • Specific technical skills related to using the phone and phone systems
  • Soft skills you use to communicate with customers and callers
  • Any phone or call center software you have experience using
  • Your job responsibilities associated with phone usage
  • Quantifiable details regarding your phone skills

You can incorporate these types of phone skills in the experience listed on your resume. To be considered for a specific role, you should also read through the job posting and then include those relevant skills if you have them.

Use these steps to properly include phone skills on your resume:

1. Firstly, mention the most notable phone skills in your resume introduction

Your introduction is the first paragraph a hiring manager will likely read when reviewing your resume. Whether you choose to use a summary, objective statement, professional profile, or qualifications summary, you should mention at least one noteworthy phone skill so the reader can understand your expertise.

2. Secondly, include detailed examples of your phone expertise in your work experience

Your work experience section allows you to elaborate more on your phone experience. Under each past job, describe responsibilities you held related to using the phone and communicating with callers. This is also the space to include quantifiable data about your phone skills, such as customer satisfaction ratings as a customer representative, impressive sales closing numbers, or the number of handled and resolved customer complaints. Information presented in numbers communicates success to hiring managers.

3. Thirdly, note your technical and soft phone-related talents in your skills section

Phone skills include technical capabilities to use complex software and multi-line phones and soft communication and interpersonal skills, such as active listening and compassion. List these in the skills section of your resume to emphasize them to the hiring manager.

Common phone-related skills to list in your resume include:

Communication skills

The ability to communicate clearly is one of the most important and required skills for a role that uses the phone often. For customer support and sales jobs, where primary communication is done over the phone, successful communication is needed to yield beneficial results for the business. Other jobs may require employees to field emergency calls, manage customer conflicts or take hundreds of phone calls a day, making exceptional communication necessary. Communication skills include active listening, asking questions for clarification and interpersonal skills like empathy and patience.

Technical skills

Knowing how to properly use phone equipment is another commonly-required skill. Some jobs may require employees to operate complex phone systems like PABX systems and operator boards. Other roles may entail advanced knowledge of specialty call center software.

Customer service skills

Many jobs that require heavy phone usage are customer-service related. Customer service skills include maintaining a friendly and helpful demeanor, dictating clearly, answering calls promptly, and resolving conflicts. For individuals who do most of their work over the phone, they need to be skilled at making outbound telemarketing calls, getting high customer service ratings, and closing sales.

Foreign languages

Many employers want to hire bilingual individuals because of the increasing population of non-English speakers. If you fluently speak another language, make sure to add this to your resume under skills or education.

Here are a few ways you can improve your current phone skills:

1. Firstly, build up your active listening abilities

The first step toward improving your phone skills is to be a better active listener.

Examples of active listening abilities:

  • Staying as focused as possible. Try to remain undistracted from your surrounding environment and concentrate on the call.
  • Wait for a significant pause before responding.  You will listen more effectively when you allow the caller to finish their sentence before taking your turn.
  • Ask questions to gain clarity. If you are unsure of a caller’s needs, ask questions to make sure you find the best solution for them.
  • Recap key points to ensure you understood them correctly. Summarizing the most essential details also   shows the caller you are listening to them.

2. Then, enhance your responding skills

You can also improve how you respond to callers.

Examples of being responsive:

  • Project a positive and natural-sounding tone.  This helps a caller feel comfortable and respected. Try smiling to help you maintain a happier, attentive tone.
  • Pay attention to your rate of speech.  Make sure to speak at a moderate pace so the caller can clearly understand you.
  • Enunciate clearly. Use simple words and phrases when possible, and keep your tone professional. Practice speaking using a pause instead of filler words such as ‘um’ or ‘like.’

3. Finally, learn the technology

Know how to properly operate the phone equipment and software you will use. Spend downtime practicing common functions and familiarizing yourself with the basics. Spending more time learning the technology will reduce missed calls, wrong transfers, and other avoidable technical issues.

Use this resume example to better understand how you can emphasize phone skills on your own resume.

How to Create a Resume Using Google Slides

A side from using Google Slides to create presentations, you can also use it to create resumes. Google Slides’ drag-and-drop interface makes it easy to create custom layouts and perfectly position any text, images, and videos you want to add. So, let's take a look at the easiest and fastest way to get this done.

Create a Resume Using a Google Slides Resume Template

The easiest way to create a one-page resume in Google Slides is to customize a template. Here’s how.

Step 1: Find a Suitable Resume Template

Google Slides' template gallery does not contain specific resume templates. But, there are sites with a variety of Google Slides templates to choose from. For this example, we'll use a template from SlidesMania.

  • Go to SlidesMania.com .
  • Type “CV” or “Resume” in the search bar to find resume templates.
  • Browse the results and click on your chosen template.
  • Click Open in Google Slides .
  • Select Use Template in the top right corner.

Step 2: Make a Copy of the Template

If the template is set to view-only, you'll need to make a copy to edit it. Even if the template is editable, creating a copy allows you to keep the original version intact.

  • Select the slide you’d like to copy. If you want to copy multiple slides, click on the first slide, press Ctrl on your keyboard, and then select any additional slides.
  • Go to the File tab, click Make a copy , and select either Entire presentation or Selected slides .
  • Enter a name for your new copy, select the folder you’d like to save it, and click Make a copy .

Step 3: Customize the Template

Customizing the template includes editing the text in text boxes, changing the appearance of text boxes, updating the profile image, and swapping out icons. Let's go through each step one by one.

  • Double-click on a text box, edit the text, and click outside the text box area to save.
  • To delete or duplicate a text box, right-click on it and select Delete or Copy .
  • If you copied, right-click in an empty area and select Paste . Then click and drag the text box to your desired location.
  • With the text box selected, change the font, font size, and text color to match your preferences.
  • Change the appearance of the text box by adjusting its fill color, border weight, border dash, and border color.
  • Click the profile image and select Replace image .
  • Select Upload from computer if your photo is saved on your device. In the file explorer pop up, choose your photo and click Open .
  • To fit your photo into a different shape, let’s say a rectangle, click the dropdown arrow by the crop image icon, select Shapes , and pick the rectangle.
  • With the image selected, click the crop image icon to reposition your photo within the shape. Zoom in for precise adjustments and hit Enter on your keyboard when you’re done.
  • Click the reset image icon if you want to undo the masked shape applied to your photo.
  • To add more icons or swap out existing ones, download icons from any of the free SVG icons websites as PNG files.
  • Go to the Insert tab, click on Image , and select Upload from computer . Select the icons and add them to your resume.
  • Click and drag the icons to your desired position.

If you’re applying to multiple jobs, tailor your resume for the different job types and proofread your resume for errors to boost your chances of success.

11 Best Communication Skills for Your Resume (With Examples)

11 min read · Updated on February 13, 2024

Ken Chase

Are you properly conveying communication skills in your resume?

When it comes to employment skills, few are more important than the ability to effectively communicate with others. No matter your profession, chances are that you'll need some level of communication skill to interact with co-workers, managers, subordinates, and customers. As a result, employers who are evaluating potential hires always want to see evidence of communication skills in a resume.

But which communication skills should you include in your resume to make the best possible impression on employers?

In this post, we'll explain why you need to highlight these skills in your resume, examine 11 of the top communication skills, and offer tips to help you demonstrate those abilities. We'll also provide examples that show you how to include this critical information.

Why should you include communication skills in your resume?

While your hard skills - specific, measurable, job-related abilities - typically form the core of any job description's required qualifications, soft skills cannot be overlooked in your resume. In fact, those interpersonal abilities can play a significant role in any hiring decision that involves two otherwise equally competent candidates. If you're competing for a job against someone with equivalent technical capabilities and experience, that difference in soft skills may determine who gets hired.

When you include communication skills in your resume, you're letting an employer know that you have interpersonal abilities that can make you a valuable member of their team. That's an important consideration for any employer, of course. Companies want new hires who can do more than just fulfill their duties; they want team players who fit well within their organization.

Types of communication skills

It's important to understand what we mean when we talk about communication skills. For our purposes, we can categorize these skills into three distinct types:

Verbal skills . These communication skills include everything from conveying information or persuading others to public speaking and dealing with customer complaints.

Written skills . Many jobs require the ability to write in a concise and informative manner. These skills can include everything from informal emails to professional briefs, client presentations, and detailed reports for superiors.

Interpersonal skills . The third type of communication skill involves all those abilities that you use to interact with others. They can include things like empathy, active listening, and conflict resolution.

What are the top 11 communication skills employers want to see?

Below are 11 of the top communication skills for resumes. As you might expect, there are many others that you might want to consider as well. However, these 11 skills are among the most sought-after that employers are looking for in job candidates.

1.     Active listening

Active listening is a prized communication skill. This ability goes well beyond simply hearing what others say, and instead involves the ability to actively understand their message. People with these skills can connect with others, build trust, and participate in collaborative problem-solving efforts.

Active listening includes a host of other skills, including the ability to ask probing questions, provide nonverbal and verbal cues that show that you're paying attention, and paraphrase what you're hearing to confirm your understanding of the message.

2.     Empathy

Empathy is a vital interpersonal trait and one of the most important leadership communication skills. People with empathy tend to be more curious and open-minded, have a keener sense of self-awareness, and are less likely to be hostage to their own natural biases and preconceptions. They value other people's perspectives and are willing to entertain ideas that challenge their beliefs.

3.     Conflict management and resolution

Conflict is an inevitable feature of human interaction - including in the workplace. If you have excellent conflict resolution skills, it's important to highlight them in your resume. Employers will be interested in knowing that you're capable of resolving interpersonal conflict in your work setting, since that can have a direct and positive impact on productivity and workplace harmony.

4.     Presentation skills

There are many jobs that require the ability to make presentations to superiors, customers, shareholders, or even coworkers. Good presentation skills enable you to compellingly convey information to others, persuade them to consider your point of view, or simply keep your target audience apprised of relevant developments.

5.     Writing skills

Effective writing skills are important in virtually every industry and a wide variety of roles. Obviously, many jobs will require simple writing tasks like composing emails, but there are a whole host of other writing abilities that employers may be looking for. These can include everything from legal briefs or technical writing to advertising copy, marketing presentations, contract creation, and more. Depending on the job you're seeking, including these important communication skills in your resume could be vital.

6.     Team building

The ability to build and work with teams is another important leadership communication skill for your resume. Whether you're interested in a managerial or executive role, this skill set is something that you'll need to succeed in that leadership position. Effective team builders know how to work with others to solve problems, are skilled in delegating work to competent subordinates, and know how to help team members reach their full potential.

7.     Motivation

Employers also appreciate candidates who possess useful motivational skills. While the ability to set goals, maintain a positive attitude, and rally others to achieve a shared objective is essential for leadership, it can also be an invaluable skill for anyone who works in a collaborative setting. By including these communication skills in your resume, you can ensure that employers recognize your ability to inspire others and drive productivity in the workplace.

8.     Openness to feedback

Hiring managers also want to see that you're capable of receiving feedback, whether it's constructive criticism or praise. These skills reflect a commitment to teamwork and continual improvement, both of which are highly prized by today's employers. It's a bonus if you're also adept at providing feedback to others. That desire to develop as an employee and help others to reach their full potential can make you an attractive candidate for many jobs.

9.     Honesty

You might not think of honesty as a communication skill, but it is. Whether you're an entry-level worker or a manager, it's important for others to know that they can trust your words. Of course, honesty encompasses more than just being truthful. It also includes character traits like trustworthiness, responsibility, accountability, and reliability. Honest people are seen as authentic and confident, traits that all good leaders possess.

10.  Emotional intelligence

As the workplace has grown more complex in recent years, hiring managers have placed greater emphasis on employees' emotional intelligence. That's a fancy term that simply describes your ability to manage your own emotions, understand your own interactions with others, and use that knowledge and insight to control stress, relate to others, communicate in a clear and effective way, and manage conflict.

People with high emotional intelligence often excel at interpersonal relations in the workplace and tend to be competent leaders. Their ability to recognize their own emotions and the feelings of others around them can help them to make more informed decisions. Including examples of your use of emotional intelligence can help to highlight those critical interpersonal communication skills in your resume.

11.  Negotiating

Negotiation skills are also highly prized in most industries, so make sure that you highlight these abilities in your resume too. Successful negotiators are adept at problem-solving, persuasive communication, and conflict resolution - skills that are useful in nearly every industry. Include an achievement in your professional experience section that highlights your negotiation skills, demonstrating how those abilities provided measurable value to a previous employer.

Tips you can use to highlight these skills in your resume

Of course, being familiar with these different communication skills is just the first step. You also need to know how to highlight them in your resume. The following tips can help you with that process.

Match your skills to keywords in the job posting

Always make sure that you review the job posting to identify specific communication-related skills that are listed as job requirements. Wherever possible, use those exact terms in your resume as you describe various communication skills that you've used in previous jobs. That will help to ensure that your resume is found by an applicant tracking system when an employer conducts a search.

Focus on measurable achievements

Don't just say that you have certain communication skills. Show that you have them by including them as achievements in your resume summary or professional experience section. Make sure that you describe how you used those skills to produce measurable value for your employer. Use real numbers to help the reader understand the type of value you can provide as a potential hire.

Always be brief and to the point

Brevity is important, since hiring managers often sift through dozens or even hundreds of resumes. Make sure that you highlight communication skills and other abilities as concisely as possible to optimize space in your resume. Remember also that your writing skills will be on full display as you create the resume, so you probably won't need to spend much time boasting about them.

Communication skills: resume examples you can use

As we noted, there are several ways that you can highlight communication skills in your resume. You can include mention of them in your resume summary, list several within your core competencies section, and highlight examples of their use in your professional experience section. Below are some examples to show you how this is done.

Communication skills in your resume summary

Detail-oriented Office Manager with 10 years of experience managing office operations and interdepartmental communications. Managed 21-person team responsible for accounts totaling $123 million a year. Researched, drafted, and implemented interoffice communication changes that reduced waste by 22%, expedited internal processing and increased departmental revenue by 19% in the first year.

Communication skills in your skills section

Including these communication skills in your core competencies, or skills, section is a simple matter. Pick the skills that most closely align with the job requirements, and list them in bullet point form alongside other key soft skills and your technical proficiencies. For example:

Copywriting

Email management

Media communications

Presentations

Team building

Training management

Office management

Organization

Time management

Decision-making

Communication skills in your work experience section

When it comes to including your communication skills in a work experience section, you again need to focus on notable achievements. Use real numbers that demonstrate value and create several bullet point accomplishment examples for each job listing in this section. You only need to include a couple of examples of how you used your communication skills, of course, since you'll likely also want to highlight other core job-related skills too. Here are some examples that show how to do this:

Reorganized office information flow to speed up client onboarding and account management, resulting in growth of 12% in client acquisition and an increase of 40% in retention

Created an innovative training program for new office transfers, focused on new skills and employee growth. Program resulted in 60% drop in employee attrition, contributing to a 13% increase in revenues in the first quarter of implementation

Negotiated resolution to client conflict that saved a $2 million project contract and led to a 30% expansion in business with the customer over the next two years

Scammers impersonate well-known companies, recruit for fake jobs on LinkedIn and other job platforms

Facebook

Scammers are lurking on LinkedIn and other job sites, posing as “recruiters” for well-known companies. But instead of looking to hire you, they’re really looking to take your money and personal information.

It starts with a direct message on a job search site like Indeed or LinkedIn. The “recruiter” says you have exactly the skill set they’re looking for. Next, they’ll email an official-looking invitation for a virtual interview along with a Job Briefing guide that gives you details about your job duties and job benefits. (Did that email come from a personal email, not a company account? That’s a red flag.) After the virtual interview, you get an official-looking offer letter, complete with the company’s name and logo.

But after they offer you the job, they’ll push for your money and personal information. You’ll get an invoice (it’s fake) for equipment like a computer they’ll order for you, but tell you to pay for — using cash, Zelle, or PayPal. They promise to reimburse you. But they won’t because it’s a scam.

Or, instead, they’ll ask for your personal information, like your driver’s license, Social Security, or bank account number, to fill out “employment paperwork.” And they want it before they’ll answer your questions about the job. But if you share it, they might steal your identity.

To spot these scams, know that honest employers will never ask you to pay upfront fees for a job or for equipment. And they won’t ask you to pay them using cash, Zelle or PayPal . Anyone who does is a scammer.

To avoid these scams, never give out personal information before doing some research. Contact the company directly using a phone number you know to be legitimate — not one you got from the “recruiter.” Or go to the company’s website. If you can’t confirm the job is real, it could be a scam.

The FTC has resources to help you spot job scams . If you spot a scam, report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov .

True but some of these scammers are VERY sneaky and good at fooling those who don't know about this yet or what to look for. You don't know what you don't know. Especially those who aren't tech-savvy enough to realize how easily and often this stuff happens. Don't victim blame please.

Maybe if a place is added to upload/add Documents/Video/ Files when Reporting Fraud, it will be of tremendous help on Reporting Frauds.

This is a good idea and there may be places but IDK for sure rn. It's been years since my last ID theft (thankfully, bc of info like this) but reporting does need to be one stop shopping so to speak in one place and super easy to do.

The was a place to add pics or documents FYI

Thank You. This is a wonderful sight, and most helpful.

I don't know how anyone is supposed to get a legit job online anymore, and thats the only way most companies advertise and hire. Many are pyramid scheme scams disguised as "insurance sales" or somesuch. My husband almost got caught by one so Thank You for continuing to spread awareness about these things. They are rampant even on legit sites like LinkedIn, Monster.com, Indeed, everywhere. I wish the sites could keep them out but they don't so who can you trust?

What did the job listing say? I'm trying to figure out if the ones I'm seeing on Zip Recruiter promising like $250k/year are real or do you have to recruit to make money

I have had problems with LinkedIn, I tried unsubscribe from their website only find out wanting you to use a password connected a search engine or company profile by scam associated through job profile link to Indeed job search engines.

This article is chalk full of great advice. The one problem with articles like these is that they shy away from the problems associated with those who are looking for a job because of a difficult situation. The ones who feel they have to take anything they get! This can lead to bad judgement and impaired risk assessment in the job search process. To avoid these kind of scams, the best way to do research is to use community resources like state labor and employment offices, secretary of state databases, chamber of commerce, and others to do some cursory filtering and assurance of the employer and their credibility.

Please look into biolife aka takeda

I reported a few scams to zip recruiter and they just ignored me. They just want the money and don't bother to protect job seekers. Very shameful.

Report the scam attempt immediately to the FBI'S Cyber Crimes Division, the US Attorney General and local Law Enforcement. Also report the scam to the site it was initially posted on like Indeed, Zip Recruiter etc.

Thanks for your post with red signals against fake job placement companies.

In fact, there are many others on LinkedIn for business tie-up, one should know him/her with reference of your known network. Else, you will lose your money. I have lost money after such tie-up with Dubai based company.

Why in the world doesn't LinkedIn do a better job of monitoring their website? I'll have to reconsider my membership and remove any and all of my personal information on the site.

I been a victim of the job scheme. They sent check supposedly for work or office equipment. Wanted me to deposited into my account and send them the money. I knew when they mention the check, SCAM!

I got scammed last week by a group of people claiming to be from the company Trip.com. They were good. They did a Zoom job interview, never asked for any personal info, no money. They had official looking uniform tops with the Trip.com logo. They asked all the right questions. I was 100% sure I had the "work from home Customer service job. They sent me a $3500 check by over night Fed ex. Said to deposit it and wait a few days for it to clear and contact them for the vendors I was to use for my equipment. I deposited it and the next day was informed my account was closed for fraud. Being investigated for criminal acts. Told First Citizens investigator I have the messages saved on my phone as well as the contact info but she didnt want them. There should be some sort of insurance for this kind of stuff. The check looked official. Everyone BEWARE

Why can real companies say they are hiring for positions through Indeed and like sites when the positions are in fact not really available? Even sending you a reply that they received your application and are reviewing it presently. I can prove this happened to me.

I am receiving text messages almost daily from people offering me a job with starting pay at $50.85 an hour. $50 an hour???? Please. I'm not that stupid

I just received this email today at 8:31 AM, I thought it looked suspicious for obvious reasons, but I'm sure it's a scam after reading this article. Thanks for sharing this valuable information.

Have been by a company that Fahd me take stray tojore. They have said I am hired send info on real estate in area. The name of the co is in palatine italy? ABitialia s r l. Keep getting messages to buy porodicts and get mail checks for processing and take out my commission, on and on a perfect scam if you don’t get caufht

Our company is a recruiting company and the Scammers have been targeting job candidates using fake job postings in our names, and calling and emailng candidates on Linkedin using our recruiters LI profiles and names via Text messages. This is serious stuff and every time we thing we have shut down a fake website they have created, they do it again. Smart job candidates are going to our website inquiry form and letting us know this is happening to them but this will ultimately hurt our business and unsuspecting job candidates. NOTE that they usually advertise high paying, fully remote data entry or customer service jobs so they are praying on the hourly workforce. If anyone knows of a way to stop these crooks, please post a response here.

Just contacted by a group of Africans claiming to represent the pharmaceutical firm for NoxoPharm based in Australia. They insisted on meeting through Teams (Microsoft) The correspondence did not have a connection to any organization and I insisted on establishing Humanity through ZOOM. They immediately disappeared. I blocked them and informed NoxoPharm.com of this activity.

I was sent a check, it cleared but now I need to cash app funds to a third party for equipment instead of being told where to buy the equipment. Why would they not pay the vendor directly instead of sending it to me just to send it out via cashapp

There are very many scammers in Europe countries for example the prolink innovations connection, profylink all are scammers, they have cheated my €90 and diciving me that money is for application process, medical certificate, documents process but now if am to connect to them through email, they can respond to me.

I just went through this, but during the process, I had a gut feeling. I found this article and that was all the verification I needed.

These people are horrible taking advantage like this.

Greatest scamper of them all in FB a guy name Elon mask

A lot of individuals are posting fake jobs sites, and the people who need a job can't get one because of the harassment.

beware of PLAID RECRUITERS, specifically nick sullivan.

I had a "recruiter" ask for my date of birth, no year and the last 4 digits of my ssn. I've never been asked that before and I've worked with several recruiters over the years.

I was reached out by what seemed like a legit company, Crown Brand-Building Packaging in Pennsylvania by their Human Resources department, which does exist. They sent me a Screening Test/Interview Questions for a Regulatory Specialist form. After I filled it out, the rep immediately informs me I was accepted for the position. Be careful all.

Ben Katzav has been in Manchester for eight years.

His pizza shop is on the corner of King's Road in Prestwich, an area lined with kosher delis and butcher shops, a short drive from a synagogue.

His fear stems from a bomb threat last year made by an unknown caller.

The top UN court rejected a South African request to impose urgent measures to safeguard Rafah in the Gaza Strip.

However, it has stressed that Israel must respect earlier measures imposed late last month at a preliminary stage in a landmark genocide case.

The International Court of Justice said in a statement that the "perilous situation" in Rafah "demands immediate and effective implementation of the provisional measures indicated by the Court in its Order of 26 January 2024, which are applicable throughout the Gaza Strip, including in Rafah, and does not demand the indication of additional provisional measures".

The court added that Israel "remains bound to fully comply with its obligations under the Genocide Convention and with the said Order, including by ensuring the safety and security of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip".

Last month the court ordered Israel to do all it can to prevent death, destruction and any acts of genocide in Gaza, but the panel stopped short of ordering an end to the military offensive.

South Africa announced on Tuesday that it had lodged an "urgent request" with the International Court of Justice to consider whether Israel's military operations targeting the southern Gaza city of Rafah breach provisional orders the court handed down last month in a case alleging genocide.

On Thursday, Israel urged the world court to reject what it called South Africa's "highly peculiar and improper" request.

Israel strongly denies committing genocide in Gaza and says it does all it can to spare civilians and is only targeting Hamas militants.

The top US diplomat involved in humanitarian assistance for Gaza says that Israeli forces earlier this month killed Palestinian police protecting a UN aid convoy in Rafah.

"As a result, Palestinian police have refused to protect convoys, hampering aid deliveries inside Gaza because of threats from criminal gangs," said David Satterfield, Washington's special regional envoy for humanitarian issues.

"With the departure of police escorts, it has been virtually impossible for the UN or anyone else, Jordan, the UAE, or any other implementer to safely move assistance in Gaza because of criminal elements," Mr Satterfield told an event hosted by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

He added that police escorts include Hamas members but also officers with no direct affiliation to the militant group.

Israel's military has not yet commented on his remarks.

The UN says aid has been impeded by Israeli forces, a charge Israel denies.

Mr Satterfield was asked if there was any truth to a report that Israeli troops killed "Hamas operatives" protecting a UN aid convoy in Rafah earlier this month.

"The IDF [Israel Defense Force] 10 days, two weeks ago, did indeed strike at seven, eight, or nine police officials, including a commander whose units had been involved in providing escorts," he replied.

Such escorts were needed because of attacks on aid convoys first by "desperate" Palestinians and "then by criminal elements," Satterfield said.

The US has returned the Houthis to a list of terrorist groups today, hitting the Iran-aligned group with harsh sanctions.

The move has sparked fears at the United Nations that it could hurt the Yemeni economy and civilians.

Washington said last month that it would designate the Houthis as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" as it aimed to cut off funding and weapons the group has used to attack or hijack ships in the Red Sea.

However, a senior UN aid official said earlier this week that the sanctions could harm the war-torn country.

The UN says more than 18 million people need help in Yemen.

Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam said in a statement the US decision reflects "blatant hypocrisy" and accused the US of sponsoring terrorism by supporting Israel.

"Yemen persists in supporting Gaza by all available means, and continues to prevent Israeli ships or those heading to the ports of occupied Palestine until the Israeli aggression ceases and the blockade on Gaza is lifted," Mr Abdulsalam said.

A US State Department spokesperson said that the 30-day period from when Washington announced it would relist the Houthis as a terror group was used in part to give the Iran-backed rebels the opportunity to scale down their attacks.

Joe Biden says he has had extensive talks with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent days, in which he pushed for a temporary ceasefire.

The administration has been pushing Israel for a humanitarian pause that would allow for the release of hostages still being held by Hamas, months after the group's 7 October attack.

"I've had extensive conversations with the prime minister of Israel over the last several days, almost an hour each, and I've made the case, and I feel very strongly about it, that there has to be a temporary ceasefire to get the prisoners out, to get the hostages out," Mr Biden told reporters at the White House.

Yesterday, the US president again told Mr Netanyahu that he should not proceed with military action in Rafah without a credible and executable plan to protect Palestinian civilians.

Hamas has claimed that Israelis taken hostage on 7 October have suffered many losses and that those that were alive are living in extremely difficult conditions.

"Losses amongst [Israeli hostages] have become many while other hostages live in extremely difficult conditions," Hamas' armed wing spokesman Abu Obeida said in an audio message.

"We warned dozens of times about the dangers to which their hostages are being exposed. We didn't want the situation to reach this stage, but [Israel's] leadership ignored us," he said.

"For months, we tried to protect and care for the lives of these hostages, as it is our top humanitarian goal to liberate our own prisoners and to realise the legitimate rights of our people."

Israel's chief military spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, said on Tuesday that 31 of the hostages held by Hamas in Gaza were dead.

Israel believes 136 hostages are still being held in Gaza.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club, which documents and cares for Palestinian detainees, issued a statement on Tuesday saying the number of Palestinians who have been arrested since 7 October was at least 7,000.

Israel's defence minister says it has "no intention" of sending Palestinians into Egypt as part of an evacuation of Rafah.

Yoav Gallant told reporters: "We respect and value our peace agreement with Egypt, which is a cornerstone of stability in the region as well as an important partner.

"We are thoroughly planning future operations in Rafah, which is a significant Hamas stronghold."

His comments come as reports emerge that Cairo is building a miles-wide buffer zone along its border with Gaza as part of a contingency plan in case large numbers of Palestinian refugees flood into Egypt.

Israeli officials say the military is working on a detailed plan to evacuate civilians from Rafah ahead of a planned offensive there, but have yet to share any detail.

Seafarers now have the right to refuse to sail on ships passing through the Red Sea according to a new industry agreement, a labour union and other industry groups have said.

The announcement comes as the situation in the region escalates and further vessels are attacked by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis.

The Houthis have targeted commercial ships with drones and missiles in the Red Sea since mid-November in "solidarity" with Palestinians against Israel in the Gaza war.

Sailors remain in the firing line, and have already signed agreements to receive double pay when entering the high-risk zones.

In December, areas deemed "warlike and high-risk" were extended into the southern area of the Red Sea as part of negotiated arrangements between seafarers and commercial shipping companies, known as the International Bargaining Forum (IBF).

In the latest IBF arrangement seafarers must give seven days notice prior to entering the area and have the right to be repatriated to another location at the shipping company's cost, the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) and the Joint Negotiating Group, said in a statement.

It also includes compensation equal to two months basic wage.

Around 12% of global trade is estimated to pass through the Red Sea.

Missile fire has apparently targeted a ship off Yemen in the Red Sea.

It is the latest attack suspected to have been carried out by Houthi rebels.

The captain reported an explosion near the ship off the Yemeni city of Mocha, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Organisation centre said.

"The crew and the vessel are reported safe," it said.

It did not immediately identify the vessel targeted.

Security firm Ambrey described the ship as a Panama-flagged tanker and said the crew was unharmed, though the vessel sustained minor damage.

The Houthis did not immediately acknowledge carrying out the attack.

However, the rebels typically take several hours before claiming responsibility for their assaults.

Earlier we brought you news that a man had shot two people dead and wounded four others at a bus stop in southern Israel in what Israeli media described as a suspected Palestinian attack.

Hamas has now praised the shooting as "a natural response" to Israel's devastating war in Gaza and called on more Palestinians to take up arms.

Benjamin Netanyahu said the attack showed the "entire country is a front and that the murderers, who come not only from Gaza, want to kill us all".

He vowed to continue the Gaza war until "total victory" over Hamas.

The attacker was shot dead by an armed civilian who was at the scene, the authorities have confirmed.

Israel's Haaretz newspaper and other outlets identified the shooter as a Palestinian from East Jerusalem, but police said the investigation was under a court-sanctioned gag order and declined to confirm his identity.

The national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, speaking at the scene, pledged to increase distribution of firearms to civilians who have been arming themselves in record numbers since the attack on 7 October.
